Story Starters : Do You Make an Impact on Someone?
|
| Posted by shan on 2009/4/23 7:37:30 (9 reads) |
I was sitting in my big comfy chair the other night and was wondering if I died tonight, just how many would remember me and be at my funeral, other than my immediate family members, of course. Would there be classmates from high school? Old friends? Acquaintances? Did I ever do anything worth remembering for them to come? Did I ever make a big enough impact on someone's life to even care?
I don't know why it bothered me that night, but it was something I wondered about. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with me getting older, or looking at my children and wondering what would happen to them if something happened to me.
My challenge for you is to write your thoughts about this question. How does it make you think about your own life? Does it make you want to do more? or are you happy with your life as is, and don't really care if anyone remembers you or not?
I think this is a question most of us think about, but maybe it should be taken a bit further in our minds and written for our own eyes to see.
Take some time and write on this prompt. Never know, you might be surprised at your own answers!

Shan's Journal : Standing at a Crossroads

I stand there watching him, wondering if he sees me. My heart beats fast for him, with a sudden ache that almost knocks me to the ground when she walks up to him, welcoming him into her arms..Does he not know? Does he not understand? How can he love another when all I've done is love him! Such hurt, such pain..How do you live through that agony? It's like taking a knife to the heart and watching it cut through to your very soul..
How can he not see the one that really loves him is standing in the shadows at the crossroads? Another love gone...another heart broken..When will it ever end? Such pain, such hurt..One day, his turn will come and He will be standing in the shadows watching...The crossroads can be a very lonely place..... |

Games People Play
He sits at the bar looking like he owns the place, when he sees this beautiful girl walk in and sits next to him. She starts to check him out, thinking he has a lot of money. He’s dressed in an expensive ensemble, drinking martinis, looking the part.
He notices her staring at him and he’s thinking about his next move. He turns to her and begins talking to her, introducing him in his most smooth and suave way. She begins to take an interest as they talk. He tells her about his company and brags about his penthouse, knowing all the while in the back of his mind he’s just feeding her a line to seduce her back to his place.
She begins to think this man is on the up and up and asks him for a ride home, thinking she’s going to get a lift in a big shiny BMW. As they go outside to get in the cab, he tells her his Mercedes is in the shop because some jerk hit him in the side on his way to the office. She gets in the cab without another thought.
As the cab pulls out, she asks the cab to take her to this very handsome, wealthy (so she thinks) man’s place instead of her home. When the cab pulls up to this run down apartment building, she looks in disappointment, feeling bamboozled. He tries to explain that this was a building he owned and invested in, when all of a sudden the land lady shows up hounding him for the rent. The girl had seen and heard all she wanted and told the cab driver to take her home.
Once he pulled up in front of her house, she got out and looked around her, noticing all the trailer trash looking yard ornaments and all the awnings drooping from the tops of the trailers.
As she walks inside, she thinks about the gentleman that lied to her about who he was and what he did, and how she was out looking for some sugar daddy to come and rescue her. I guess in the end, they both got what they deserved—nothing and nothing in return. |

Shan's Journal : Comfort Zone
|
| Posted by shan on 2008/4/21 5:30:00 (73 reads) |
Someone told me on my birthday just a few days ago that I need to "come out of my comfort zone". And even though it was in relation to a style in clothes and trying to find something to wear for my husband's Naval Awards Banquet, I got to thinking about what she said and applied it to the other areas of my life besides stepping out my t-shirt and jeans and into something out of Park Avenue.
Anyway, there have been other adventures I thought about embarking on that takes me away from my writing gig, even though I don't write as much as I should because of the crazy life I lead, I do love writing, however, have thought about what my life would be if I put down the pen and picked up a Realtor's license or went back to school and finished my Business Degree, or maybe even step way out of my comfort zone and became a nurse! Even though those things sound appealing to me, and maybe a bit more rewarding financially than becoming a writer, I can't think of anything that could possibly cure my appetite for writing. If I didn't write SOMETHING everyday, even if it's just scribbling down character sketches or even a journal blog, I'd go absolutely insane!! So, I think that being said, my comfort zone with my t-shirt, jeans and my pen can get a little cozier and who knows--maybe this gig will someday bring me into another level of comfort!
